Re: Query regarding duration of Mersenne Prime Test v28.5

The mprime's stress test will run until you tell it to stop. I don't think there's a built-in way to let it run for a fixed time period (that's its design - better make your complaint on GIMPS' forums). You can try some shell scripting tricks to limit the duration it runs -- but it's a pity that I d...

Re: Decompression error: invalid compressed format (err=1)

Your CD is bad. As indicated in the error message (Error reading sector).
Try checking the disc in another computer, or burning another disc.
(You should know what to do when I tell you this. Otherwise, you aren't supposed to use UBCD in the first place.)

Re: Explorer's modification of CPUstress image

Hello, is the CPU stresstest in latest version supposed to be a trojan of type Artemis? Br, Victor It's a false positive. Better report it to your antivirus software vendor. Seriously, the file you are referring to is just a compressed, custom Linux kernel image. It's impossible to have a trojan ho...

Re: No 64-bit stress testing?!

Currently, the CPUstress has only 32-bit image. There is no plan to build a 64-bit image, even though it's possible. The main reason is that I have no time.
I am going to need someone to have a special 64-bit kernel configured and built for that. The rest of the parts will be easy.

Re: How to Burn ISO onto CD

I see absolutely nothing when I click on the CD Drive under My Computer. Did I do something wrong? This iso image still took up almost all the space I have on that CD. I really don't see any other way I could have possibly burned the image onto the CD. I followed the few simple steps that I was tol...

Re: First time newbie user UBCD 5.33

I have some questions on how to wipe a 60 gb SSD drive on an older HP 1000 netbook running or was running Win XP Home. I know I will lose all drivers. I have an older Gateway desktop that has XP Home. I tried to boot with a Gateway desktop recovery disk but disk didn't recognize HP drivers on an ol...

Re: CPUstress image: Power button behavior (opinions please)

Just for your information, the FDUBCD doesn't support ACPI power button, and on my laptop, pressing the button in FDUBCD will go hard poweroff. It seems that most BIOSes allows you to configure the power button behavior to either go suspend or instant-off ( look at the screenshots I google'd ). Too ...

Re: CPUstress image: Power button behavior (opinions please)

If your going to enable it, either way works for me but I do usually shut down after doing burn-in testing. Could you enable a popup that offered both options and a cancel? To be honest, I haven't used CPUstress in quite a while. Providing options and a way for users to cancel will be an overkill. ...

Re: CPUstress image: Power button behavior (opinions please)

I actually prefer the current no-action behaviour. Reason is because it is very easy to accidentally press the power button, especially if you have kids in the house. I feel the reset button or the switch on the PSU are good enough options if something gets stuck. That's just my opinion. I actually...

CPUstress image: Power button behavior (opinions please)

Hello everyone who uses CPUstress image in UBCD for stress testing. I'm planning to build a next version of this image, with an updated Linux kernel and stress programs. For now, I face a small question about the power button behavior in it. Currently, pressing power button in CPUstress does nothing...

Shellshock fix for MSYS bash:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/f ... -3.1.23-1/

Not sure if it is useful to upgrade this thing in UBCD.

The msys-1.0.dll (from msysCORE) that MSYS bash depends might need to be updated as well.

Re: Explorer's modification of CPUstress image

If you have the time, some short notes about the reasoning behind the changes will be appreciated. Cos the info may be useful later for people who contribute to the project. I thought the reasons are easily understood to anyone who maintains the project: 1. I didn't include hard disk stressing opti...

You seem to be very new to these stress tools in UBCD. Well, I cannot give you advice on how to test your particular hardware (NAS is new to me), but, because I maintain the CPUstress test image, I can explain you how to use it. First, know two things: (1) There are several tools in CPUstress image,...

In this case results.txt is at /opt/mprime/ (and I managed to open it :) ). Glad that you found it. :) I'm looking forward to the inclusion of a newer version of mprime (28), though it seems to behave a bit differently when I ran it in Windows, so it might be good to keep 27 there as well. Re: Prime95

Trying to get to the bottom of those kernel panics, I found out what was causing them: Linux (in most recent implementations, at least) simply ignores the BIOS settings regarding C-states, so if you have disabled those in BIOS, they will be enabled by the OS: http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/po...
