Re: protecting flash drive when booting UBCD

I wonder if anyone protects their UBCD flash drive (thumb drive, memory stick). And, if you do, how do you protect the flash drive when using it on a possibly infected computer? Buy a flash drive with a hardware write protect switch. I've purchased the 2.0 version of this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B...

Re: UBCD READ.ME file?

Have you read the homepage of UBCD at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ ? The list there is not complete, but I'd think it is enough for most users. Yes. If you re-read my original post (with speed-read mentally de-selected) you'll see I did find the list on the main page, and I found it lacking. In a...

Flash drive benchmark tool?

is there one included already? if not, I found this page: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-lightweight-tools-to-check-the-speed-of-your-usb-flash-drive-windows/ I haven't looked in depth into any of them to see if they'll run on something already included in UBCD. I also don't know if Parted Magic has...

UBCD READ.ME file?

There are a lot of tools that I've never even booted into on my copy of UBCD. Today it occurred to me (while searching the list of hard drive tools), that there isn't an overview of all the tools somewhere. I'm thinking of starting with a list on the UBCD homepage and then following all the links an...

Re: adding Wary Puppy 5.1.3 (puppy linux - long term suppor

This is *almost* the same as the current wiki tutorial at http://wiki.ultimatebootcd.com/index.php?title=Tutorials:Integrating_Puppy_Linux , but in the wiki tutorial it says to cut the *.sfs file, instead of copying it. I don't know which one is correct / better / advisable.... I'm, guessing that b...

Re: adding Wary Puppy 5.1.3 (puppy linux - long term suppor

Yea, I cribbed off the wiki for this one. My step 3 is not on the wiki at all at this point though. It took forever for my posts to be deemed by the board as "not potential spam", so I assume I don't have rights to edit the wiki. Thus this post here, now. Most of the tutorials seem to be c...

A recommendatiion if you plan to put UBCD on a memory stick

Check out this blog post I found. Not only are there hardware recommendations, but there's also some tricks that you can use if your current usb stick does not have a write protect switch. Those of you counting on the little tab on a SD card for write-protection will want to read this too. Personal...

adding Wary Puppy 5.1.3 (puppy linux - long term support)

The link to the iso and the md5sum are here. (please note: I'm adding this to UBCD installed on a flash drive. I'm using an OS like recent Ubuntu or OS X that allows you to click on an iso and auto-mount it, so I'm glossing over that part. I'll assume you already have UBCD on your flash drive.) 1. ...

Re: Missing Operating System?!?

I think I found your problem, try this: sudo /home/jwesleycooper/ubcd51b1-extracted/ubcd/tools/linux/ubcd2usb/syslinux --install --directory /boot/syslinux /dev/sdd1 This worked for me as well. On the next scheduled release, I suggest you update /ubcd/tools/linux/ubcd2usb/readme.txt to reflect this...

just the RSS feeds please

I've been toying with the idea of creating a RSS feed of all the tools I use regularly, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't duplicating effort. First, though I have to ask a related question: How do you know when to update all the tools that make up UBCD? I'm guessing you use an army of volunteers to...

Re: UBCD to TFTP server?

Thanks everybody. Great suggestions Icecube's "Parted Magic" suggestion is probably the best, but I understand that using slackware package with this distro is kinda "plug and pray" Puppy does not seem to have a suitable package. I know puppy the best though, and this might be ea...

UBCD to TFTP server?

Is there anything in UBCD that you can boot into and create a TFTP server? I searched the forums and I think I found a few threads that would let you use UBCD as a PXE bootloader, (and boot and image hosted elsewhere) but that's not what I'm after. I want to stick my read-only flash drive (w/ UBCD o...
