thanks so much "the piney" that worked a treat. I was thinking that i'd have to go through the build process again as with ubcd4win. I burnt the disc, booted up and have now been able to transfer data from laptop before using the recovery program to reinstall xp.

Ok thanks I've managed to unzip the files from the iso, can you be more specific on how to now create a disc with these as ther is no builder exe file.
I got as far as the command prompt in /ubcd/tools/ubcd2iso/ubcd2iso.cmd but am unsure how to proceed, thanks for your help

Yes I am very new to this. I have already built a working ubcd4 but would like to try ubcd5 as I understand I would then be able to access a usb or external drive whilst booting from cd.
