feedback from Denis

Hi. I'm not involved for quite a while with UBCD, however I recently received some feedback for UBCD on my email address. I'll quote it bellow, maybe it's useful to somebody: -------------------------- Hi Adrian, Thank you for your work on UBCD. I didnt find any email Link or Feedback on the Website...

Maintaining INSERT for UBCD in it's actual form it's for sure a burden, unless it's done by somebody that has it's own interest into it.
As for including the original INSERT: looking at how succesful the current UBCD+INSERT is, might provide an answer (ie. number of downloads FULL vs BASIC)

Re: sysinfo

I'd like a method so I can boot up and view all the system's information... Ideally... First, a solution is to boot up a full Live Linux CD (not INSERT or minmal CDs), then look for some control panel app like "system info". Second, you can view some info "manualy" from any linu...

I usually use MemTest86+. After using it on about 50 different sticks of memory I still haven't found one that reports errors?? I wonder if all this memory is really good, or this program isn't testing hard enough? This program tests as hard as it is possible. You either haven't let it run all the ...

StressCPU requires a CPU that has SSE. Do you have such a CPU?

PS: Eventually, I'll add check for SSE in next version of UBCD, to avoid such problems.

I'd love to take a look at xcpuid, but the linux version seems to be for "Members only".
Anybody got the linux version?

I've get the beta version of INSERT 1.3.6 from Matthias at the end of november. It's working fine with UBCD 3.3. I think it can and should be merged with UBCD 3.4 release. Would be nice to add at least some of the UBCD Insert changes to the new insert before including it in UBCD (like: xvncviewer, ...

Re: How to update INSERT?

Unfortunately some of the links in the "Additional Resources" section are broken, which describe how to add Knoppix and Linux based distributions to UBCD. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/customize.html Here are the updated links: http://www.sadyc.net/UBCD_Knoppix.html http://www.sadyc.net/a...

It's better yes, and hopefully it will be more useful.
It will have even more coverage if it would be on the main webpage, eventually not requiring the user to have a forum account..
(But this will take time to implement, i guess..)

The thing is that UBCD has a lot more users, and statistics done on such a small number of "test subjects" have a huge error margin, which makes them useless.

The "overwhelming" support it's only from 6 users.

Re: Customizing 3.2

IF captive uses only LUFS API, then captive doesn't need any changes. However nowdays, FUSE (Filesystem In Userspace) might be included in the official kernel 2.6.12 or 2.6.13. FUSE does the same thing as LUFS, but probably has a different API. Maybe it will be wiser to port captive to work with FU...

Re: Customizing 3.2

Lastly, how important would you rate captive? To be honest, I've used NTFS in RO mode, but have yet needed to use the RW abilities of captive. The reason I ask is that the upcoming version (no date yet), will run the 2.6 kernel. Captive development has been discontinued so as 2.6 progresses, captiv...
