Topic: Parted Magic nifty; add lm-sensors and more Linux!

I find lm-sensors to be mainly useful in combination with stress testing, since I want to evaluate cooling at full load. I'd prefer lm-sensors in the cpustress image, or alternatively cpuburn/prime95/... + lm-sensors in pmagic (the latter is probably easier, but harder to use since you have to start...

Problems on this machine (ASUS K8V-XE, VIA K8T890, AMD Sempron64 3400+) were solved by adding the raw option to memdisk, but for reference the errors: 0 OK 1 Invalid opcode at 51C1 FFFF 0286 FFFC 0000 0000 0000 0000 FFFFC 0000 017C 0000 FFA6 2 Invalid opcode at 51C1 FFFF 0286 FFFC 0000 0000 0000 000...

Just tested it on one machine (ASUS K8VE-XE mainboard, VIA K8T890 chipset, AMD Sempron64 3400+). Adding the raw option solved both the invalid opcode error (option 1, 2, 6) and the hang after loading the CD-ROM driver (option 5).

mprime appears to be broken for me in this version. It prints 'Starting instance {1..2} of mprime(...)'. Then it appears to do nothing for about ten seconds. Then one instance of mprime is launched, which aborts after a few seconds with FATAL ERROR: Writing to temp file. This message is correctly wr...

According to my limited knowledge of German, the notice says that Avira bought/merged with datapol (or at least their relevant technologies).

Why don't you use the ISO image? That seems easier than trying to combine three disk images. I can load the 'boot' file, extracted from the ISO, via bcdw, but VMWare reports a stack error (may or may not work on real hardware). Loading the whole ISO via diskemu works on VMWare.

John, I like this project. This is definitely something I'll eventually put on my home network and at work, although I don't have any time to play with it now. My own system only contains memtest86+ and some software for automatic installs, with plans to add Hitachi DFT/Maxtor PowerMax. Some comment...

If you're trying to integrate the official Ghost 10 rescue CD, last time I looked this was a WinPE environment. The instructions for integrating UBCD4Win (which uses something similar to WinPE) would probably help, but you will have to adapt them to your situation.

COPYR.DMA is also quite fast and freeware (link is at the bottom of the page). It is designed to skip bad sectors, but won't handle large about of bad sectors (the author sells a different program for that). The main disadvantages are that it doesn't support LBA48 (no disks larger than 128GB), and ...

This reply is very late, but it may still be helpful. Most PCI IDE controllers that I've seen don't support ATAPI (including CD/DVD) devices. The manual/box of most Promise controllers explicitly tell you to connect only HD's to it. This probably explains why Isolinux complains about a broken BIOS: ...

I believe I extracted this succesfully about seven months ago. I succesfully integrated the Lenevo PC-Doctor (PC-DR) for desktops. I'm not sure if I tested it beyond the 'this machine is not supported' (my home machines aren't IBM), but since I also run the regular PC-DR with the same bootdisk, I do...

What's the difference between this utility and included disk wiping software like AutoClave and Active Killdisk free edition? They can also fill your HD with zeroes. I think some other HD diagnostic software (Hitachi?) also has this option.

Many programs that work with memdisk and don't need the CD or can be fitted on a 2,8MB floppy image (eg. memtest86+) can work using pxelinux (part of isolinux). If you use a bootdisk with SMB network support you could map a network share and use it instead of the CD, but don't expect memory tests to...

It's a Knoppix-style cloop file. Look for Knoppix remastering instructions. The link on the 'about INSERT' page is broken, this is the correct link: http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Knoppix_Remastering_Howto. Note that there's no APT available in INSERT.
