Newbie to UBCD

Malcolm: The CD is designed to be a bootable CD; you burn the ISO, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD, and then boot into it. Within another operating system, such as Windows, it won't do much but allow you to browse documentation. UBCD is primarily a system testing/recovery CD; there are no...

Any ideas? My custom CD doesn't boot!

Scott: You'd have to provide details on what doesn't work (don't get the menu, can't exec menu items, etc). Since your beta worked, it's probably not a good burn. Try to burn at 2x or 4x. For CDs that MUST run in all sorts of environments, I always burn at 4x, even though I use Plextor drives and hi...

The modifications to isolinux are indeed documented, in fact, some of the best I've seen. All source code modified by the CDShell author is commented with his initials. Of cour...

Customising UBCD with Linux, ect.

Guys:

Until I get the opportunity to write docs for adding

Getting screenshots while in INSER Linux with x windows snap

Strangly enough, xdw pipes it into xwud and back to the screen. Not really sure how this would be usefull... To get a snapshot into a file, do the following: - Select Run from the Flux menu - Launch the following: xwd -out /home/insert/image.xwd Now you'll just need a program that reads xwd files. >...

Computer shuts down when scan launches...

If your system restarts both in Windows and in the UBCD, then I would have to agree with sohoit; it's likely to be a heat problem or one of your memory chips is defective. Bad memory would explain why some apps would restart and others not since they may be accessing a portion of memory that other U...

I assume you're using UBCD Windows; if that's the case it's best to post on their forums. I don't recall what File Managers they use, something like A3 is one they include. It would contain an interface similar to Explorer which should allow you to copy files (assuming you have a place to copy them ...

can the UBCD help me with a blue screen error?

There are no utilities on the UBCD that will assist in BSOD (Blue screen of Death) errors. The only util that might help would be ASR (Automatic system recovery), off the Windows installation CD. UBCD does have utils for hard drive diagnostics which can help you determine if the drive itself has pro...

adding linux app to UBCD before burning to CD

None of the Linux distros on the UBCD will run KDar
since several of the apps/libraries you listed are
not installed.

I'm guessing you did something like: - Extracted Geexbox to an iso - Added the iso to UBCD's iso - Modified the menu to exec "diskemu geexbox.iso" Is that what you did? If not, tell us how you did it. If it is what you did, then Geexbox is one of the many, many isos diskemu CAN'T boot prop...

OK, long email in an attempt to resolve all questions from both threads: I'll address your mkisofs questions later in this post, but let's first start with the objective: Objective A: Since you purchased a CDROM as opposed to downloading the ISO, you want to verify the integrity of your UBCD 3.3 Ful...

JJ: I thought you had verified the MD5 sums via the file I provided you? Is this still and outstanding issue or are you attempting to generate the ISO and compare the MD5 from that? If that's the case, it will never work. In fact, depending upon the util used, generating an ISO on the same machine, ...

mkisofs, ISO from pathspec ONLY? Customize?

JJ: I'm not sure what you mean by produce an ISO with the pathspec tree. If you want to exclude files and/or directories from your ISO make sure you're running a mkisofs with the -exclude-list option. This option allows you to specify a file containing a list of files/dirs you want to exclude from t...

OK, I have edited this post since you are correct; looks like the list was truncated. BTW, the method I used to create the MD5 sums is as follows: (Note, I use Linux; it's easier for me to do stuff like this and I don't need to burn or install special software, but here is a list of commands I ran) ...

Verify MD5 checksums for your entire CD

You can make an ISO from the CD using various utils then check against the following: [MD5 ] 3adcec845d446708e7c344187af2640c BASIC [MD5 ] fa856de1804032f69d6ebd267d7c2a29 FULL But, I'd be surprised if your own ISO extraction from a CD came out with the same hash. In order for anyone to provide a MD...
