Thanks Icecube. Are you going to include the hotkeys for the menu's? You have added the help text already, which is nice. Nope. I tried both approach 1) making certain letters in the menu items hotkeys 2) labelling them numerically and using the numbers as hotkeys. I hated both methods (ugly). So un...

Menu Hotkeys?

The ISOLINUX menu system allows hot keys to quickly select a menu item. Would this be useful in the UBCD menus?

Code: Select all

MENU LABEL [^1] Mainboard Tools
This shows the number 1 inside brackets and pressing 1 moves to the line.

I had no trouble whatsoever with Dell Optiplex GX270s and 280s using 4.1.1, nor when I upgraded the version of ISOlinux that the disc uses to 3.62.

Don't forget you can also edit the disc yourself to add or remove programs as you see fit.

ubcd2usb.bat would make your flash drive bootable, but it being that it does not involve mkisofs I am not sure how (or even if) you would need to edit it to proceed.

VinZz, I believe he is referring to editing ubcd2iso.bat to change the mkisofs switches, not the menu system.

Re: How to add windows setup/recovery console to UBCDv4

4. From wxp10.zip copy w2ksect.bin win51 and win51ip to the root of ubcd 5. Go into i386 and delete bootfix.bin (unless you want to hit any key to boot from cd) I'm not sure if you need the WXP files root files on the root of the CD, or if the W2K ones will work, or if there are more files needed f...

Victor, I had requested 4.09 since it was the last version that tested all brands of hard disks. Since then I've tried the new Seagate utility (which is on UBCD4+) and they're very good, although I'm not sure if they work for all brands. So adding just 4.22 sounds good, although I'm not sure what it...

What version of Windows are you running?

The feature I'd most like to see is the ability to boot ISOs. You can compress all the applications in the dosapps folder. First, upx all executables in every directory. Second, 7zip each directory alone. That makes troubleshooting and later customization more difficult. How much would that compress...

To add small DOS games to the disc: 1) Start with a freshly formatted Windows 9x bootable floppy. 2) Copy your game files to the disk. 3) Create autoexec.bat which points to the game executable. 4) Make an IMG file with WinImage or similar. You can make 2.88MB images if the game is too large for a s...

You can edit the MENU TITLE line in defaults.cfg to say it is customized. Alternatively, edit startup.msg in isolinux and syslinux folders to give a longer message before the menu appears.

Not sure if there is a way to boot ISO files using UBCD4, but if you can extract the diags, try booting them as a "dosapps" item. See the method I used for the Dell Diagnostics.
