Re: Asus laptop BIOS does not recognize UBCD

What model of laptop? Is it running BIOS or UEFI? If it is running UEFI you can try changing the CSM settings but this may not help.

What is it you are trying to do?

Re: Laptop stuck in bootloop

Try booting to another "Live" CD/DVD/USB to see if you can at least get something to load. Can you get into BIOS/UEFI without a crash? Heating issues can often cause odd behavior.

UBCD4Win is discontinued, what do we do now?

Diagnostic / Repair Utilities have come a long way since UBCD4Win and I thought I'd create a small starter post of some of the ones that I have come across. Some need to be built similar to UBCD4Win and some can be downloaded in ISO format. I have mostly used Linux Boot CDs/DVDs over the last severa...

Re: Query regarding duration of Mersenne Prime Test v28.5

It will keep running until you stop it. I usually ran these programs for 10-12 hours and sometimes more just to check stability of the system. If the system hasn't crashed it's usually stable.

I don't recall ever having any log files created.

Re: ubcd4win project

It appears the main site is down as well now... This was a great tool for many years and I still keep a couple versions/ISOs on my Zalman VE-300 just in case I need to work on an XP system. As a replacement for older systems, I usually move these users to Linux distros such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu and L...

Re: Help mounting RAID drives

Sorry, that should be striping. http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/08/raid-levels-tutorial As this has no parity, chances of saving the data will much less likely. As opposed to mirrored drives which is basically 2 copies of all the data, RAID "0" is stored across the drives in blocks/stripes so the f...

Re: Help mounting RAID drives

What RAID level... If it's stripped I'm not sure how best to proceed. If it's a simple mirror you can try to recover from any drives in the array unless one has damage/corruption then you can switch to the other drive. If your trying to mount from PartedMagic or other Linux distro you can try adding...

Not a problem.

I just try to "give back" when I can as this project has been very useful over the years. If it really helps you, consider donating.

Re: DVD drive reads DVD when booting but no UBCD menu shown

This would probably be best posted in "Support and Troubleshooting". As to your question/issue... Is this system BIOS or UEFI based? If UEFI, that may be your main problem. What CSM settings for boot device? Can you try booting in a BIOS based system to confirm that the CD/DVD is working? black scre...

Many people will not read this. This is the true and sad fact about many free resources available on the internet. Users that are unwilling to READ before USE. I've recommended UBCD for so long and to so many people that I've lost count but I always tell those people to "READ" the instructions or r...

Re: Black screen when I am waiting for Parted Magic to setup

UEFI support is currently buggy at best as most of the tools in UBCD are designed for BIOS based systems.

You can search the forum for some suggestions regarding CSM settings to try to get it to boot but still not sure what programs/tools are going to work correctly if at all.

Re: How long it takes to "secure erase" an SSD using UBCD?

Is this a multi pass erase? If so, you are just using up limited writes to the drive.

Some info on wiping HDDs and SSDs.

Re: Requested Changes

UBCD is Linux/DOS based programs. You may be looking for UBCD4Win but that project has stopped all activity. There are projects available to create "live / PE" environments similar to UBCD4Win but using more recent Windows versions. Avira has a free bootable/live CD available as do many others. http...

Re: Can I put a subset of UBCD on a 256MB USB drive?

I've stripped the PartedMagic on a couple builds when I was adding to multi-boot CDs/DVDs and USB drives which had PartedMagic already. I think I got the base image down to around 200MB. Just remove the PartedMagic files and edit the required config files and rebuild.

Re: Problems with copying to drive

I've used Testdisk in the past with great success for just this issue. Although, Windows 10 is newer and may have some possible issues with file system and such with testdisk. But definitely worth a shot. Testdisk in included with PartedMagic but you could also install/run it from your Linux install...

It would help to post at the Opensuse site.

If you have a wired connection available, you could try updating the system that way and maybe you'll get the driver for the wifi.

Good luck...

Re: UBCD and Photorec _ Can not see another destination Dis

I had the same issue with testdisk/photorec a couple years back.

I ran testdisk/photorec with "sudo" and it worked fine.
In terminal, type "sudo photorec" and type in the password when asked.

Good luck.
