What version of isolinux and syslinux are in use? Some of the changes that allow new menu options are only available in the newer releases it appears.

I also agree hotkeys would be useful, although I wish I could use the F keys as well.

Menu Help Text

It appears it is possible to have multiple lines of text explaining each tool, but I'm not having any luck getting it to work right. Could someone post how to have multiple lines of text for a single item in the menu system?

Since this works with Memdisk the only difference between booting this is the menu system. Add this to your custom/custom.cfg file:

Code: Select all

LABEL Dell1282
MENU LABEL Dell Diagnostics 1282 - GUI-based diags for newer Dells
	KERNEL memdisk
	APPEND initrd=/images/dosubcd.igz ubcdcmd=Dell1282

Generally in that program, the default is automatically selected when you hit Enter. You'll have to hit Enter a few times until it displays the list of users. From there select your account and use the * option to blank the password. If I recall it then asks you to save back your changes and then qu...

I recall reading there is a way to use multiple ISO files on a single CD, and have a menu at the start which allows you to pick which one you go to.

I am unfamiliar with NTFS4DOS's chkdsk, specifically if it has the /r switch available. You can download Recovery.iso (which is a CD-bootable version of the XP boot floppies, not the whole OS) and run chkdsk /r from that, or alternatively get any bootable copy of Windows 2000 or XP and run the recov...

johnnysmooth, are you using UBCD4.x or 3.x? Your boot command looks like a CD Shell command which 4.x does not use.

I also would like Maxtor's diags back on the CD, in some cases Seatools 3 would crash (but I haven't checked the latest version on UBCD4.x).

You should not need to Dban-wipe the drive to reinstall Windows, as the Windows installer has a built-in format tool.

If you're missing files on your fresh install, have you checked your hard disk and memory?

Using the ISO from MHarding, I was able to get this to work in UBCD3.4.4 by using "bcdw boot" on the file /i386/SETUPLDR.BIN rather than needing w2ksect.bin on the root of the CD. WIN51IC and WIN51 are still needed on the root of the CD or you won't be able to get to the console.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any reason why you'd need the Pro in the Recovery Console.
