sounds like it could be a hardware issue (memory perhaps). any idea what the BSOD says? this should help tell you what xp is complaining about. in answer to your question: 1) there is a range of harddisk diagnostic tools available on the CD (i can't recall a specific one in particular). The menu CD ...

okay, i've just downloaded UBCD 5.0b4 and can confirm the image DOES work. the dosubcd.img (revision1.1) is included in the update so you shouldn't need to update the ISO.

does this help?

does anyone know if the dosubcd image works with prior versions (e.g. 5.0b3)? i haven't had time to download and test version 5.0b4 but i'm fairly certain you shouldn't be facing issues with 5.0b3. i'll have a look at the script(s) to try and determine the problem. (-: edit: also, did this problem o...

ah, ok. if you're installing the driver from config.sys then try this:

Code: Select all

device[high]=GCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000 /Cn
where n=1..3

i believe your autoexec should then contain:

Code: Select all

MSCDEX.EXE /D:CDROM /L:n
again, where n=1..3

assuming your sata device is valid, it should work.

well, that's certainly enough fat to chew on for now. i'm just finishing off FDrev1.2 and setting up a skeleton disc for UBCD for victor to look over. Once finished, i'll endeavour to check out the aforementioned bin files.

good work. you could have also tried using Ranish Partition Manager (included in the UBCD distribution) - simply type "partman" at the command prompt or access it from "menu".

useless now i know, but may prove helpful for those without a licensed copy of ghost.

Firstly, when using UBCD/freedos, smartdrv need not be loaded (all caching is handled automatically via lbacache). Secondly, this forum has nothing whatsoever to do with "Hiren's CD", nor does it support activities in promoting software piracy and the illegal distribution of commercial sof...

I see where you're going now. For the purposes of commercial applications I'll admit it may prove useful for those of a less technical (not to mention compulsive) nature than my own. :) If the GUI was to support creating the bootable floppy images, that might take a little more work but wouldn't be ...

If you're having trouble booting from CD try downloading Bootable CD Loader v1.50Z..."Enables PCs that do not support boot from CD (Bootable CD) to start bootable CDs".

bcdl150z.zip

otherwise:

v4.11

Code: Select all

/images/dft.igz
v5.xx

Code: Select all

/ubcd/images/dft.igz
