As a general rule I make images of the original floppies at the start in case a modification I do is incorrect.

I have not tested your suggestion, but try it and let us know if it works.

More likely than not you have bad sectors and should use the Windows Recovery Console (accessed by booting off your Windows CD) and typing in chkdsk /r to run Checkdisk with bad sector scan. If that completes but you still are having the issue try booting NTFS4DOS Free Edition (Filesystem Tools 2/2)...

This may have to do with a change to the options to boot from the first and second hard disk.

Try dropping to the console and typing in
boot 0x80
and let us know if that works.

I don't have a SCSI machine assembled to test this idea out at the moment.

Could you go into more detail what the changes you're suggesting do?

This works normally on my Dell Dimension 4600. Is the only thing wrong on yours the countdown to the hard disk boot?

In earlier versions of UBCD I have had issues with SeaTools dropping to a DOS prompt for no appearant reason, but have not had problems with the newest version so far. (I've not used it enough to judge)

I've not had problems with it. Usually when an image doesn't load the disc is dirty / scratched or the system RAM is bad.

I strongly recommend it for cloning a disk with significant bad sectors to a new disk. The free version is limited (PIO last time I looked) but works!

The Hitachi (was IBM) Drive Fitness Test has it.

It is useful for testing refurbed drives.

It sounds like either bad memory or a bad video card. Try one of the other memory tests or go to Memtest.org and download the floppy version and try that. There is a known issue with the version of CD Shell included on this release, I'm not sure when it will be resolved.

Try booting MemTest+ in the Motherboard menu, if that won't boot you may have bad memory. Alternatively, re-burn the CD at a lower speed.

So you have the x86 version of XP installed?

I'm not sure otherwise why it won't boot. Did you try a different optical drive? That would be my last guess on this.
