Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
@ Victor , Debian is traditionally prepared to build new OS based on it, as much (or even more) as it is an OS by itself. It is also the biggest community distro. So it is no surprise that you find it easy to build on it. OTOH, most (not all) distros with specific focus on low resources (and/or low ...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
@ Victor , As I commented before, I am waiting for Porteus devs to solve some last-minute issues (which, at this point, the devs have probably solved already) in the stable 3.0. Although http://build.porteus.org/ says " Desktop Web Wizard takes an impact on our server resources and bandwidth......

Re: Parted Magic display problem
My guess is that you are booting this new system in UEFI mode. For UBCD, you need to set your firmware to CSM (aka. legacy BIOS compatibility mode). But, if you already have an OS booting in UEFI mode (e.g. Windows 8.x), you would need to go back to UEFI mode before rebooting back into that OS. UBCD...

Re: UBCD V5.2.9 available for download
In the official download page, the size (574MB) is currently replaced by a "-" symbol. The current "p2p" and "older versions" respective left-side column say "ISO", but there is no mention about "torrent", which are what the p2p and "older versi...

Re: ubcd2usb in Windows 8.x
...that can be included into future editions of UBCD? UBCD, in its ubcd2usb scripts, can only make use of the tools already provided by the boot loader itself. It is, after all, just a script. At this point, there is not much that UBCD can do. Currently, the closest we could go would be to modify t...

I think the line:
should rather be
Note that the former includes a backslash and the latter does not.
Am I wrong?
Code: Select all
"%~dp0\syslinux" -f -ma -d boot\syslinux %a2%

Re: Potential problem with ubcd2usb
I can understand the addition of "[BOOT]" to exclude.lst (artifact from 7za extraction), but how about "boot.images"? "[BOOT]" is to "7zip", what "boot.images" is to "IZArc". If you take a look at the ubcd2iso scripts, you added (years ago...

If I have missed anything, please let me know. What about the " Potential problem with ubcd2usb " topic? http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=25176#p25176 Additionally, I think at least the change (downgrade) of 7z in fdubcd should also be noted as part of the changelog. I...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
portus It is Porteus, not portus (which you wrongly wrote in prior posts too, which might, perhaps, give some hint about how much you really invested on an actual test at it so to say all that FUD). This is the problem I have with ady. You do? I surely don't. His suggestion need very big warning fl...

Re: Explorer's modification of CPUstress image
Please forgive my ignorance. I am curious about: Block layer and ext2 filesystem support removed. Are those not relevant (anymore)? And regarding: Changed kernel and initrd compression from gzip to XZ. Does this change affect older hardware in any significant way? (Note: Stress tests are sometimes u...

Re: ubcd2usb in Windows 8.x
The Windows-based "ubcd2usb" script included in UBCD uses "syslinux.exe", which is a 32-bit Windows executable to be executed in a PC-BIOS system. The script could be modified so to be used under a 64-bit Windows in a PC-BIOS system. Default installations of Windows 8 are 64-bit ...

Re: ubcd2usb in Windows 8.x
Your system is most probably using a UEFI firmware, not BIOS. Almost all tools included in UBCD need a BIOS firmware. If your UEFI has CSM (aka. BIOS legacy compatibility) mode, you could use it so to boot UBCD. In such case, to boot Windows 8+ again you would need to turn the setting back to UEFI m...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
@ oiaohm , I completely disagree with the reasoning you posted. I want to be able to use all the Linux-based tools we already have available, such as the extra modules, testdisk,... I think Porteus is one of the possible solutions for UBCD, *among others*. You, from your own words, are concentrating...

Re: Include older version of IBM/Hitachi Feature Tool
Some old drives never supported AAM. Some newer drives are not officially supporting AAM. Instead of including in UBCD an older version of a tool just to support AAM (while downgrading the other options), I would suggest using an alternative tool. Under Linux, one example is “hdparm”. Under Windows,...
