how to build ubcd 5

#1 Post by TOMMO69 » Sun May 03, 2009 11:13 am

Yes I am very new to this. I have already built a working ubcd4 but would like to try ubcd5 as I understand I would then be able to access a usb or external drive whilst booting from cd. The aim is to remove some files which as yet I have been unsuccessful in doing. I have downloaded the iso file for ubcd 5 but dont know how to incorporate it into the build. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks

You can extract the iso with 7zip.
You can run /ubcd/tools/ubcd2iso/ubcd2iso.cmd to make the iso again.
Download Ultimate Boot CD v5.0: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
Use Parted Magic for handling all partitioning task: http://partedmagic.com/

Ok thanks I've managed to unzip the files from the iso, can you be more specific on how to now create a disc with these as ther is no builder exe file.
I got as far as the command prompt in /ubcd/tools/ubcd2iso/ubcd2iso.cmd but am unsure how to proceed, thanks for your help

You need to add the files to the directory that has the directories (antivirus, boot and ubcd). Suppose this is c:\ubcd-extracted.

Edit the necessary isolinux config files if you want to add UBCD411.

Run ubcd2iso.cmd:

Code: Select all

ubcd2.iso.cmd c:\ubcd-extracted c:\ubcd5b12-custom.iso
Download Ultimate Boot CD v5.0: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

It appears that you are trying to create a new cd image. If your just trying to put the downloaded ISO onto CD then just burn the ISO image to CD.. You can use most burning software but I recommend imgburn -> http://www.imgburn.com/

thanks so much "the piney" that worked a treat. I was thinking that i'd have to go through the build process again as with ubcd4win. I burnt the disc, booted up and have now been able to transfer data from laptop before using the recovery program to reinstall xp.
Thanks again
