UBCD5.0 & Offline NT password -> Freeze while startin

#1 Post by muird » Tue Apr 20, 2010 5:14 am

I'm trying to use the good UBCD5.0RC2 & the nice Offline NT password & Registry Editor 080802 on a Samsung R720 laptop.
But unfortunately, i'm getting a freeze... (i can't even make a software reboot with ctrl-alt-suppr so i have to use the power touch to shutdown the computer)

Here, is what i did :
1- Burning the ISO image of UBCD5.0RC2 on a CD-RW
2- Starting the laptop on the CD-RW
3- I'm getting the UBCD5 menu and i choose :
HDD -> Data Recovery -> Offline NT Password & Registry Editor 080802
4- the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor 080802 is starting. Many things are written on the screen but it stops after :

Code: Select all

Freeing initrd memory : 2280k freed
fuse init (API version 7.9)
io scheduler noop registered
io scheduler deadline registered (default)

Here, is my config :

Code: Select all

Samsung R720 laptop
Intel Core2 Duo CPU P7350
4Go Memory
500Go HDD
ATI Radeon HD4650
Oh and i almost forgot, the OS is Vista Home.

So what's wrong ? Why i'm getting a freeze ?
Thanks in advance if you get any idea !
And also if someone is experiencing the same matter...

Did you try one of the boot options at the "boot:" prompt?

boot nousb
boot irqpoll
boot vga=ask
boot nodrivers

I just tried the "boot vga=ask" option :
- "boot vga=ask" following by <space> (continue)
- "boot vga=ask" following by <enter> (show video mode) and 0
- "boot vga=ask" following by <enter> (show video mode) and 1
- "boot vga=ask" following by <enter> (show video mode) and 2
- "boot vga=ask" following by <enter> (show video mode) and 3

And i obtained the same freeze...

I may try other video modes (the software found 6 video modes) but i don't think it's a video problem...

Code: Select all

noapic
or:

Code: Select all

acpi=off
or:

Code: Select all

nolapic
or a combination of all?

Damn, after many other tries, i found the problem :
It's my USB mouse...
If i unplugg the USB mouse then it works. I don't know why but it works and i can use the nice "Offline NT password & Registry Editor 080802".

I'm wondering why

Code: Select all

boot nousb
did'nt help...
and also what's the exact problem (usb driver maybe ?) but i don't need the mouse to use the software so the "unplugging solution" is enough to make me happier ! :D

The same thing is happening to me, only I don't have any usb mouse or keyboard, just the usb that I'm using to boot from. Any ideas on how to fix this?
