Using UBCD with an unknown BIOS and HDD Password

#1 Post by kletiz » Sun Jun 13, 2010 4:31 pm

Is there a way to boot to UBCD if there is an unknown HDD and BIOS password? Every time I try to get to the boot menu it asks for the HDD password. Everytime I try to get into BIOS to change the boot order it asks for the BIOS Password. This is a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I know that if you hold down the Fn key and then turn it on it will take you to the boot menu but it still asks for the HDD password. I thinking my only option right now is to buy a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter and run UBCD from a desktop computer...I would like to see if doing it from within the laptop is possible first. Thanks for any help I can get!

Unplug and take out the battery, then take out the Bios battery... probably underneath the keyboard (if it wont void your warranty) and hold the power button for about 1 minute then replace the CMOS battery and reboot the machine, if it worked, you wont have a bios password anymore.

As for the HDD password, depends on what it is using to encrypt the drive...some programs can be cracked, some such as Truecrypt are near impossible...you would have to either get the password or format the entire drive.
