Change Keyboard Layout

#1 Post by TCr » Fri Jul 22, 2011 8:10 am

Hi,

is it possible to change the english keyboard (QWERTY) layout to german (QWERTZ)?

In freedos there should be MKEYB Programm to change it, but it is not on disk?!
rem if you want to use non-US keyboards (e.g. German keyboard layout),
rem you can use MKEYB (small but flexible), KBD-EA2 (only for German)
rem or KEYB (bigger but with macro functionality)... KBD-EA2 is better
rem loaded as .sys (smaller). But MKEYB is less than 1kB in RAM, too.
rem ...
rem The following line asks whether you want German keyboard layout:
echo Do you want German keyboard layout?
?c:\freedos\bin\MKEYB GR
Source

It there any other way to change it?

Regards,
Thomas

Don't choose the silent mode of the FreeDOS startup screen.
Try option number 2 for example.
Download Ultimate Boot CD v5.0: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
Use Parted Magic for handling all partitioning task: http://partedmagic.com/

@TCr,
I would like to ask you to be more clear on what "exactly" you want to achieve.

Are you trying to use a German keyboard for the original FreeDOS or for the DOS version/release in UBCD?

For which version of UBCD? The latest stable ? The development version?

Are you more interested in the specific driver/program "mKeyb" ( "mKeybGR" ), or are you more interested in "any" method/program/driver that will let you use the German keyboard?

Do you need German-specific keys so to use a specific program ( of FreeDOS or UBCD ), or for general use under the DOS prompt?

The information you linked to is still relevant, but old, and you mentioned FreeDOS, but not UBCD specifically. If you could clarify your question (and your goal), maybe we can better help you.
