Making UBCD memory stick - Missing ubcd2usb.cmd

Happy Holidays!!

Followed http://wiki.ultimatebootcd.com/index.ph ... e_Contents tutorial

Then customized according to http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/customize.html

Stuck @ Making UBCD memory stick (part of customize.html tutorial)

Every machination of:
cd \ubcd-extracted\ubcd ools\win32볒usb
ubcd2usb c:\ubcd-extracted x:

Generates: <Error> Missing 'and\ubcd ools\win32볒usb.cmd

ubcd2usb.cmd exists in C:\Documents and Settings\Pop\My Documents\ubcd-extract\ubcd ools\win32볒usb

USB format via /f - was successful in earlier attempts (usb is FAT32 formatted)

I dont understand why or how
ubcd2iso c:\ubcd-extracted c:볕0-custom.iso
creates a file in My Documents - but it did successfully (perhaps one can explain - i suspect this seemingly crazy file location creation relates to the 'Making UBCD memory stick' problem i'm having.)

While i wait eagerly for an answer, I will try to find RMPrepUSB which was not part of the d/l of version 5.03 from filemirror.hu
thank you for your time

It seems to me that the paths are not the same/correct for the commands to be ran as you typed:

doubt wrote: cd \ubcd-extracted\ubcd ools\win32볒usb
ubcd2usb c:\ubcd-extracted x:
Is "x:" the Usb Flash Drive (UFD) where you want to put UBCD?
Generates: <Error> Missing 'and\ubcd ools\win32볒usb.cmd
What is this " 'and " ? Is it part of the path? It is not present in the rest of your quotes.
ubcd2usb.cmd exists in C:\Documents and Settings\Pop\My Documents\ubcd-extract\ubcd ools\win32볒usb
This path is different than what you wrote before.
USB format via /f - was successful in earlier attempts (usb is FAT32 formatted)
It is not so clear what was "successful", either the formatting only, or the whole process to put ubcd in UFD.

If the whole process was successful before, then you should use the same drive than before, and the drive doesn't need to be reformatted. If only the "formatting" was successful, then many things could be still wrong.
Can you "open inside" that ISO image using 7-zip and verify that the content is the expected one?
While i wait eagerly for an answer, I will try to find RMPrepUSB which was not part of the d/l of version 5.03 from filemirror.hu
thank you for your time
You should mention what was the customization you made, just in case that specific customization is responsible for the problems.

After trying the suggestions here, if you still are going to use RMPrepUSB, then try "clearing" the UFD and "testing" it. Again, that is AFTER testing the more simple suggestions here (like "paths" inconsistencies) and only if ubcd2usb still fails.

Yes i changed x: to d: at command prompt
Generates: <Error> Missing 'and\ubcd ools\win32볒usb.cmd
ady wrote:What is this " 'and " ? Is it part of the path? It is not present in the rest of your quotes.
Yes that mystery is why i included the entire error msg instead of just saying bat process could not find ubcd2usb.cmd - for some reason 'and' is added to the error message
ubcd2usb.cmd exists in C:\Documents and Settings\Pop\My Documents\ubcd-extract\ubcd ools\win32볒usb
ady wrote:This path is different than what you wrote before.
how should the path be entered @ command prompt if i have moved to to the ....win32/ubcd2usb before entering tutorial commands. ie. i have cd'd to ubcd2usb directory in dos console before entering tutorial commands
USB format via /f - was successful in earlier attempts (usb is FAT32 formatted)

I was able to create an iso with customization but not put ISO 'in' UFD (usb stick). Formatting was successful, generation of customized ISO image was successfull, and iso placed by bat process in my documents.

I did as u suggested and 'open inside' 7-zip the ISO image - all as expected - same iso as default + dos7.1 + IBM Lenovo boot tools disk image

Customization included the following:
1ety46ww.iso - pc doctor utilities for Lenovo package contents available here
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 56222.html
and
DOS71CD.ISO - Dos 7.1 - package contents viewable everywhere

Thank you for your time my friend - i have been trying to create a bootable usb stick for a long time - Bart, UBCD, PE, all seem not to work like old bootable cd does. No method seems flexible enough to work on ALL USB Bootable Bios computers.

Basically, boot into Windows, plug your UFD and wait until it is completely recognized by Windows (may take several seconds, be patient).

Open "My PC" (or "My Computer" or equivalent) and check which drive letter was assigned to the UFD.

According to your previous post, the UFD was "D:". Please doublecheck if this is correct (in "My Computer"). I'm going to use this drive letter "D:" in the following procedure, but if this is not your case, replace the letter with the correct one.

Code: Select all

The path to ubcd2usb is C:\Documents and Settings\Pop\My Documents\ubcd-extract\ubcd ools\win32볒usb
To minimize problems, you should copy the CONTENT of the folder:

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Pop\My Documents\ubcd-extract\
to a "simple" location, specifically to a path simple to type in, and with NO spaces.

To be more clear here (since you didn't exactly follow the instructions in the tutorials  ), then I will name the new location:

Code: Select all

C:\UBCDEXT
with no spaces, no symbols, and less than 8 characters (here I won't get into the standard 11 characters of DOS directories and the compatibility in ubcd2usb).

So now you have the CONTENT of the folder:

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Pop\My Documents\ubcd-extract\
copied to:

Code: Select all

C:\UBCDEXT
Again, to be clear here, under "C:\UBCDEXT" you won't have the folder "ubcd-extract", but the CONTENT, which means you now have:

Code: Select all

C:\UBCDEXT\antivir\
C:\UBCDEXT\boot\
C:\UBCDEXT\pmagic\
C:\UBCDEXT\ubcd\
C:\UBCDEXT\autorun.inf
C:\UBCDEXT\license.txt
and any additional file or folder from your customization.

According to the quote from your post, you should open a command prompt and run (press <enter> after each row) :

Code: Select all

C:
cd C:\UBCDEXT\ubcd ools\win32볒usb

This is the time to make a backup of your UFD if you need it. If you have any data in your UFD, the following command is going to erase it, so you need to make a backup of the data in your UFD in case you need that data.

After making a backup of your UFD data (in case you need that data), now continue with the following command (assuming your UFD letter is "D:" ) :

Code: Select all

ubcd2usb C:\UBCDEXT D: /f
Note in the previous command, that there are no special symbols, and that the only spaces are between:

"ubcd2usb" and "C:\UBCDEXT" ;

between:

"C:\UBCDEXT" and "D:"

and between:

"D:" and "/f".

This should format your "D:" drive and copy the content of "C:\UBCDEXT" to it making it bootable.

One comment about the customizations you made, which I quote here from the http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/customize.html page:
Note that booting a USB memory stick requires BIOS support and is only available on newer machines. You can also expect to encounter more compatibility issues compared to booting from a CD, and some tools may not work properly when run from a USB memory disk.
So I can't assure that your customizations will work correctly/successfully while booting from UFD.

HTH.

[EDIT]
I used "C:\UBCDEXT" in this particular forum topic to be (more than) clear in the procedure and to clearly differentiate this "new" folder from all the previous folders mentioned in several tutorials.

As a general rule, the names (for files or folders) should NOT be written in capital letters, since several tools have "issues" with them. Also, avoiding spaces in paths, and applying to the 8.3 structure for files and folders' names is also recommended/needed.
