Error!!! missing archive/directory (***.?)

Hi,
suddenly, my Medion 9399 Notebook from about 2000 with Win ME
- had posted: Enter System Password; Harddisk PW (which had never been set)
- couldnt access the floppy drive (02b0 diskette drive a error)
- in Poenix Bios 4.0 Release 6.0, the floppy is mentioned but is skipped when trying to modify it, and changing to booting order doesn't work.
I can boot from CD with the HD being drawn out of the laptop, so also from my UBCD.

After Putting the HD in again, UBCD displays errors like:
Error!!! missing archive/directory (***.?) with *** being atapwd.?, diskinfo.?, pcconfig.?, or astra.?)

Who can explain this?

I by the way think that UBCD could be improved by better explaining to the unexperienced how to enter commands etc..., giving examples.
Also "Attach a signature (signatures can be altered via the UCP)"
What does UPC mean??

Greatings from Berlin/Germany

Which version of UBCD, did you try?
Can you try: UBCD51 alpha2?

UPC = User Control Panel

Tried Version 5.0.3
and could not load the site from the internet as my laptop is half dead.
I'm by the way trying to flash the bios.
Thanks

If you are planning the BIOS, you shouldn't load any dos memory managers.
Select the "0 Boot Clean" option in the FreeDOS menu.

I don't know if flashing your BIOS would improve your situation with your hardware problems, but...

For NEWER systems than yours, about flashing BIOS, see viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2863

Maybe the link named "How to update BIOS" from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/resources.html can help you with flashing your BIOS. Basically, you need a clean DOS boot, as Icecube suggested. You can use almost any FreeDOS boot, either using a floppy or a CD, including UBCD.

About the "real" problems with your hardware, I've never seen so many errors when reading the optical media of UBCD. Have you downloaded the ISO from the official site? Have you checked the MD5/SHA1 checksums against the official ones? While using UBCD, is the optical media still inserted after booting?

Thanks to Icecube and StopSpazzing
The download source was certainly ok, probably UBCD.
I thought the reason for the errors was that UBCD could not save any of its files on my harddisk which I had to remove. Or this BIOS has been infected in a very sophisticated way. If nothing works, I'll send in my bios chip to to have it flashed for 4.50€.
Regards

Well, I thank them too, and also to Victor.

I don't get what you said, "probably UBCD". It seems you actually don't know.

UBCD has nothing to do with the errors in your HDD. If you want to save something there, and it's not working, it is probably not UBCD's fault. Does UBCD need to save something there? AFAIK, the answer would be "no".

If you are not sure about what you are doing, and you appreciate your data and your hardware, it is better to send it to someone you trust and really knows about these issues.

I wanted to thank to ALL those who answered to my question
(Thought it was only Icecube and StopSpazzing)
