Intel version 6 Laptop Motherboards

I tried UBCD 5.1.1 on a 6 month old HP dv7t Quad laptop. Windows 7 was hanging at "Starting Windows" so I was going to try scanning the Hard drive with one of the HDD apps but none of the Diagnosis apps could find the Toshiba MK6461GS drive. So I decided to try some of the CPU apps, the only app that would load and run was "Hardware Detection Tool" and it identified the hard drive controller as "Intel 6 Series 6 SATA AHCI". It also said the motherboard was type HM65. The only other apps that would load and run were Memtest86+ 4.20 and Microsoft Memory Test. But the Microsoft Memory Test only tests memory below 4GB and this laptop has 8GB with a memory hole between 2512M and 4096M so it only tested 2.5GB. Memtest86+ 4.20 tested the entire memory including that above 8GB up to 9726M.
The laptop has been sent in for repair so I will not be able to provide other details about the short comings of UBCD on these newer boards and chipsets.

I just tried UBCD 5.1.1 on two older systems and they acted the same. Almost all the version 5.1.1 apps get the same error while loading. The first message that I see that looks abnormal is: "Unable to Open RTC device (RTC0)".
I then tried UBCD 5.0.3 and did not see this error. All the CPU apps and many others loaded just fine. Also 5.0.3 has some older Seagate/Matrox diagnostics that seem to be missing from 5.1.1
It looks like 5.1.1 is just a bad release. Too bad that no one tried some of these before releasing 5.1.1

The difference between the CPU test / burn in tools in UBCD v5.0.x and v5.1.x was already explained more than once in the forum, so I'm not going to get into it.

What exact HDD tools are included in v5.0.x that are not there in v5.1.x?

Both of the Seatools/Matrox diags are missing in 5.1.1

Both HDD diagnostic tools are indeed there included in v5.1.1, so I don't know if we are talking about different things.

If you can mention the exact name(s) and version(s) of the software(s) / tool(s) you are talking about, then maybe we can get somewhere.

[EDIT]
I thought it could be useful to mention that the list of tools listed using the Syslinux menu is not exactly the same as the list shown when booting into UBCD FreeDOS.

So when you boot UBCD -> HDD -> Diagnostic -> both relevant tools mentioned in this topic are indeed listed and are working correctly.

I no longer have access to the HP dv7t laptop so I can not be sure that it was the Intel type 6 MB. Today I tried 5.1.1 on an old AMD VIA KT133 and the HDD/Diagnosis menu did list both versions of Seatools/Maxtor and I think they loaded but hard locked with corrupt video. I was able to load and run ok the Powermax/Maxtor app. I also tried the CPU apps but they got the same "Unable to Open RTC device (RTC0)" error as on the HP dv7t.
I then tried 5.0.3 on the same old system and the Seatools/Maxtor both loaded and ran Ok. There is definately something wrong with the 5.1.1 loader.

In reference to the HDD tools, I think some tools were updated (I'd need to double check this).

I don't think the boot menu has a problem with these tools. Display problems in these tools may depend on the tool and not on the boot menu, according to the "step" or "stage" when the display menu first appears. Of course, it also depends on the specific hardware.

About the CPU utilities, in many cases you would need to use the ones in older versions of UBCD. For newer CPUs models, some CPU tools included in UBCD need "heavy" updates anyway.
