Ultimate Boot CD

I want to boot to command prompt, then insert a new cd with drivers to flash an internal card. I can get to q: and A: prompt but they wont let me type DIR to view the newly inserted CD. DIR just replays the menu or DIR structure of the boot cd. IS there a way to do this?
