What happened to the UBCD4Windows project? The website looks like it's dead.

I'm not sure. Ben (the project lead) hasn't been in contact with me for quite a while.

Would be great if someone picks it up and give it a much needed update...

The website (www.ubcd4win.com) is still up but the forum has been down for quite a while now.

Domain was renewed 2012, so someone must know its still there as they are being charged for it. Forums are completely down... no update since 2010...wow.

Victor, by any chance have you tried contacting the domain owner and see if we can get it moved or something so it can be revived? Without forums, makes things difficult. I don't see any other option.

Hello,

I know this is very old, but I just happened to come across this while remembering the good 'ol days, and decided I might as well respond.

As some of you may know, I was heavily involved with the project right up until it was abandoned. I have been in contact with Ben a handful of times since the project stopped in 2010. To put it simply, he has lost all interest in it and doesn't plan to ever come back as he's busy with his family and other things.

I also asked if he had a backup of the forum so I can try to bring it back online as a kind of archive of useful information. He said he did not or if he did, he wouldn't have a clue where it was.

Thus, it really seems like such a great project truly is dead and all the wonderful information pertaining to it (except what is left at www.ubcd4win.org) is gone. Very sad, but I'm sure someone could sort of reverse engineer and update it if they wanted to. Though, in my opinion, there's better paths or tools to use, such as WinBuilder and whatnot.

Anyway, there's my 2 cents...

Yes, you can still download the last available version of the project, which was in June of 2010. If you aren't familiar with it, please take a look at the website for info and instructions, which is still up at: http://www.ubcd4win.org/

It appears the main site is down as well now...

This was a great tool for many years and I still keep a couple versions/ISOs on my Zalman VE-300 just in case I need to work on an XP system.

As a replacement for older systems, I usually move these users to Linux distros such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu and Linux Mint (LTS) Long Term Support. This has worked out very well for the most part as many users I know that constantly had issues with virus/malware have had little to no issues since changing over.

Linux Live CDs/DVDs and UBCD have been my "go to" for some time now, although I do try other projects on occasion.

Just in case, if anyone still wants to download it, it's available at MajorGeeks: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/ubcd4win.html

I too have moved on to other things. Usually I just use a very customized version of Win 7 PE SE (http://w7pese.cwcodes.net/) and it seems to work out well. I end up adding the UBCD iso image to that disc so I can go to either one (among others) as soon as I boot the system from my DVD. :-)

Actually, Ben sold it. The company who bought it has no interest in maintaining it.

A few of us tried continuing things along the multiboot route but eventually lost interest or free time to continue.

Sorry for the bad news, but I doubt it'll make a comeback

Got a bug up my bum to see what I could find and by a great streak of luck came across this ->>> https://web.archive.org/web/20121113163 ... index.php?

I went through the dates and after Nov. 13, 2012 the forum is lost so at least something was saved. Would be nice if the site/forum could be downloaded and saved somewhere else for posterity. Just in case this is lost too.

Edit: At least some of the final pages are not archived, gonna go through earlier dates to see if they are available.

Maybe this or a note pointing to this post could be added to the "Read me first" post from Icecube.
