How to update Mc Affe antivirus

#1 Post by danagaz » Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:28 am

Hi !

I've downloaded the UBCD to solve an MBR crash due to an virus.

Unfortunatly the MacAffe included in this release, isn't up-to-date.

How can i do to upgrade it in the iso file ?

This is from a previous post - found with a search for mcafee
The Piney wrote:For McAfee - Go to ftp://ftp.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/an ... c/datfiles and download the latest dat-xxxx.zip file extact and put into the /dosapps/mcafee directory.

For F-Prot - I go to http://www.claymania.com/f-prot.html - download the latest fp-def.zip file and extract and put into dosapps/fprot directory.

not sure if these are the best sources or procedures but have been doing it this way for a few months...

Hope that helps....

You can update bughunter too, http://bughunter.it-mate.co.uk/
The most current on that site is dat-5331.zip from 7/3/08..

F-Prot is no longer updated but bughunter can be updated as well..

How are you updating and burning? If you extract the ISO to a directory (say C:\UBCD) you only have to copy the updated/new dat files to the McAfee directory in dosapps and then open a command prompt and CD to C:\UBCD\tools\ubcd2iso and run "ubcd2iso C:\UBCD C:\UBCD\UBCD411.iso" if you want ISO somewhere else just change the last part to where ever you want it.

Works every time for me. I use ImgBurn to burn the ISO image to CD. It has to be burned as an image not a file or it will not work.

whats the best method to do this
do you burn a new ISO to CD-RW every time you get a new antivirus update
or can you append a update file to that folder to an existing UBCD disk on CD-R?

it fails to update definitions via network
