HELP: Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook

Hi guys, my first post here. Just wonder if someone could help.

My daughter purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 about 6 weeks ago to help her with University work.

Today, she rings me in a panic as her notebook wont start! Anyway, to cut a long story short I try using my UBCD to get it up and running.

The notebook has Vista installed and when it's starting up a BSOD appears stating an error has a oocured and in order to protect the computer from damage to start in Safe mode and remove any drivers or hardware recently installed - or something pretty similar!

So I then try to boot the computer into safe mode, the same BSOD message appears! I try several other Safe Mode options all to no avail. So now I try to boot using UBCD.

All fine and I think I'll try a system restore to an earlier date - done this before on other computers with great success BUT, the hard drive isn't listed or available!

The notebook has a SATA drive that's configured ACHI (I think) in the BIOS - this is the default setting. So I try changing this to ATA and boot again from the UBCD. Everything seems to be going fine but alas, the good ole BSOD appears.

At this point, the notebook battery runs out and of course my daughter has left the power supply in university.

I'm gonna be trying a fix again this weekend BUT, how the heck can I get the drive to appear? Is it something to do with SATA drivers? Is it because the UBCD is Windows XP and the notebook is Vista?

I'm stuck guys and would appreciate any tips.

Cheers

John
