Copy a file to NTFS file system. Please help :(

#1 Post by gajatko » Mon Dec 22, 2008 3:37 am

Hi.

I replaced a driver file to an uncertified one and Windows Vista won't boot. However, I had made a copy of the original one and managed to find it via the Active NTFS reader and copy it to a RAM drive. The only thing I need to do is to replace it.

I have spent 2 hours running all the hdd and file system tools and I couldn't do that. Maybe Avira ntfs4dos would work, but I get an Divide by Zero exception on dir command.

Please help me. :(

Use the Vista install CD (click on the console icon, I think) to copy the file back or use Puppy Linux to replace the file.

Thanks for help.

While waiting for answer, I succesfully replaced a file with Avira ntfs4dos - I just didn't use a 'dir' command.

Now I'm going to try your tips since the solution above is rather a work-around not a real solution. I hope that BootCD 5 will have a working version of Avira.

UBCD50beta7 has Parted Magic (linux) with NTFS read/write access.

When as702 publish its updated freedos image for UBCD50 , the Paragon NTFS driver is available (should be a lot better):
