Hi
I have a laptop which will not boot into windows xp. (Due to a registry issue).

Is it possible to wireless network the pc running from the ultimate boot cd to a second running xp so I can access and retrieve files.

If so, how do I do it? Please keep it simple, this is a first for me.

I tried to copy the files to a USB stick, but while it sees the stick, it does not allow a copy and paste to it.

I have tried versions 3.7 and 4.1.
With thanks
dubby

Download UBCD50b12 and run Parted Magic (linux live CD).
It will let you backup all your files. You can put them on a external hard drive or burn them to a DVD-R(W) or transfer them over the network if you have another PC with a running FTP server.

Thank you, this worked a treat.

If I burned a DVD, can the authoring software create the image direct to DVD disk, (it does not need to create an ISO on the host hard disk drive).

Thanks for the help so far

Put the xp boot cd (this will only work if you still have the cd/dvd or has to be the same sp# and if Pro or Home, borrowing it from a friend) and boot from it. Press Enter or F8 to continue (whichever it is) at the first screen...when you get to the next prompt should ask about formating first then about REPAIRING the current windows installation. You Now press R to repair...what it will do is fix the installation...without removing any applications or data that you have the on the computer. Only thing you will lose is windows xp updates...so you will have to redownload them. You wont even have to reinstall any programs!
