How to use MS-DOS or Win98 Boot Image

#1 Post by superchuck » Sun Jul 19, 2009 8:22 pm

Hello All;

I just can't get any of the tools in the dosapps folder to run on either UBCD v4.1.1 or v50b12. (I always get a "memory managment" screen with options 0-6 and no matter which option I choose, there's an error of some sort.)

I have successfully created, and added, to UBCD v4.1.1 DOS v3.30, DOS v6.20, and Win98 boot images. They all boot A-OK and run fine.

I figure I could create a DOS/Win98 .img for each tool -- but creating an image for each tool would be a daunting task and a maintanence nightmare.

I have been reading about the isolinux.cfg file and the KERNEL and APPEND commands. However, I have ony found rudimentary documentation so can't determine whether I can add a "ubcdcmd" to a DOS/Win98 image used on the initrd command.

Is there a way to replace "dosubcd.igz" with one of the images mentioned above and have it use the "startup.bat" file from the dosapps folder as it does now?

TIA.

there's an error of some sort
Which error?
Is it an Invalid Opcodes message?

I'm using v5. Every tool that boots via fdubcd.igz causes the "memory management" screen to appear. Is this WAD?

If I select options 1, 2, or 3, I get:

AUTOEXEC: Error while unpacking "A:\bin\modboot.cab"
AUTOEXEC: Aborted...

If I select option 4 or 5, it causes a bunch of pop-up forms for: CD, USB, Keyb, UDMA, LFN, Fdapm -- then some tools work.

Others, such as AIDA show:

Illegal instruction occurred
CS=3418 IP=0606 ... et. al.
EAX= ... et. al.
ESI ... et. al.
Opcodes ECS: IP CD FF 8F ... et. al.
Aborting pgm...
Press any key...

However, the box is hung and I have to power off to reboot.

I have not seen anything about Invalid Opcodes.
