How do I see my C: Drive on command prompt

I am booting to my CD ROM, on XP, and want to get to a commad prompt, so I can get to the filesystem, to delete a toxic file, before the machine boots.
I have tried several of the uitilites on the UBCD, and all of the see the C: Drive as an invalid drive. Can someone please help me get this to work?
