Can Windows 98 Startup Disk be added to UBCD?

#1 Post by HappyPaul » Tue Oct 04, 2005 5:45 pm

Hello:

I've been experimenting with adding the Partition Magic rescue disks to the UBCD. I finally got it right. Is it possible to add the windows 98 Emergency Startup Disk to the UBCD?

Thanks,

Paul

I think it will work if you use diskemu or bcdw to boot the disk image, not memdisk.

I've used the Windows ME Boot disk without any problems, you can download it from herehttp://www.torontotechcenter.com/suppor ... bootme.exe
Just download this file, put a floppy in your drive and run the file, it will copy all the files on to the floppy. Once thats done just make the image of the floppy and put it in the image directory on UBCD. Edit the menu screen of your choice and use something similar to:
if ($lastKey == key[f9]); then bcdw boot /images/your_image_name.img

I have a few Windows Boot floppy images in my build and have had no problems with them.

I put the compressed IGZ files in the custom directory and edit the custom.cfg file to add this:

LABEL w98
MENU LABEL Win 98
KERNEL memdisk
APPEND initrd=/custom/w98.igz

I have DOS 6.2 all the way up to WinXP boot disks and they all have worked in the past..

Hope that helps..

You can use a simple IMA or IMG file I believe. To create an IGZ file, you can compress the img / ima file using gzip or other qzip capable program like IZarc.. just rename the filename.img.gzip or whatever to filename.igz...
