UBCD won't boot if no HDD is installed

#1 Post by elkakels » Wed Oct 12, 2005 7:04 am

I'm using a VIA EPIA motherboard for a Netware client system. Because everything I need to access is on the file server, I have no need for a hard drive and the motherboard has no floppy connector, so I'm limited to using a bootable CD. UBCD seems great on other computers, but on these, when there is not HDD attached, I get the error:

Code: Select all

Error booting from the cd/dvd drive.
Press any key to reboot

800A00299
The error number is in the bottom right of the screen while the rest is in the upper left.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing the problem here? I've got a project I'm working on and I think UBCD can save me an enormous amount of time if I can get it working on this system.

As a recap. UBCD boots properly in the system if there is a HDD attached regardless of bios settings. It also fails to boot if there is no hdd attached. Primary/secondary/master/slave does not appear to matter.
