We have a 8gb 8 cpu AMD64 box frequently getting kernel panics... I ran UBCD 3.4, and the memtest86 on it for about 12 hours with 0 errors.. I believe the memtest86 screen reported 8 gigs of memory, but I'm not sure... before I go back out to the colocation to make sure - does UBCD 3.4 and the version of memtest86 on it test 8 gigs of RAM on an Opteron?

Given your computer, I suggest you use Memtest86+ instead. It´s an updated version of Memtest and has more hardware support.

FWIW, I went back to the co-lo and reran the test; Memtest v3.2 had no trouble detecting and testing all 8 gigs.
