newbie question.

#1 Post by Skrotnisse » Fri Oct 06, 2006 5:41 pm

I need to get hold of a command list for these programs. What I want to do, is to scan my hard drives (ntfs) for viruses. I figuered out the 'type ntfsdos' thing, but I still dont know what to write to start my scan. or to choose between different harddrives (I have 3). will the commands be the same for all 4 avirus programs? really newbie questions, I know. but that's why I need some help. Please help me!

Did you try selecting the corresponding anti-virus app from the UBCD menu?

eg.

[F4] Other Tools
[F1] F-Prot Antivirus for DOS

Then enable NTFS during the boot up (one of the prompts).

F-Prot will run at the end of the boot process, and you can choose the drive you wanna scan.

Thank You for replying.
Yes I did what you mentioned, that I have read in other posts in this forum.
My problem is what to write to start the scan? I don't know the commands.
I'm not at all familiar with dos commands.
My problem however is that my pc reboots during the loading of windows, and I'd like to see if it's a virus causing it.

I'm jumping a little ahead here, but I have another question.
I have gotten hold of ntfsdosproffessional. How can I replace the ntfsdos thats on the cd, with the read\write version i have?
I have, and have used Ultraiso to open the image. but im not sure what to replace.
Still need help with my original question too tough.

Which antivir app are you trying to run? For F-Prot, everything is automatic when you select the menu item. For others, I can help you with the command line.

Follow the customization instructions. But use WinImage to modify the contents of images\fdubcd.img and replace level1\ntfs.cab\bin\NTFSDOS.EXE with the pro version.

ok, for fprot i get a message : file not found. - 'T:\dosapps\fprot\*.*' bad command or filename - "fprot".
this comes automatic. I have tried, during boot up, to change the drive letter to what it used to be (F) and also to (A), just to try. same effect.
As for the other a-v programs. You choose one, and tell me the commands. I dont know wich is better than the others really.
I must thank you tough, for taking the time to help me. :)

Just before F-Prot is run, there should be a 30-sec pause, with a message window in the middle of the screen.

At the bottom-right corner of the screen, you should see something like:

Code: Select all

BOOTDRV: A
RAMDRV: Q
UBCDDRV: T
UBCDDRV indicates the drive letter which is assigned to your CDROM drive.

What do you see?
