I know that some Realtek chip based cards can be tested with their own app, for example RSET8019.EXE for 8019 chip, RSET8029.EXE for 8029, etc.
These apps run under DOS, and they are wery useful ...
3COM cards can be tested with a windows-based app, called "3COM NIC Doctor".
I have no information about others...
Broadcom NIC DOS diagnostic apps.
