ISO image 121MB

Self-extracting EXE 82MB (39MB or 32% smaller)

Plain old ZIP 90MB (31MB or 26% smaller)

.exe over zip savings 8MB

Ultimate Boot CD Ver 3.3 (Full)

Download types Size

ISO image 186MB

Self-extracting EXE 146MB (40MB or 22%)

Plain old ZIP 154MB (32MB or 17% smaller)

.exe over zip savings 8MB

a) first looking at mirrors I don't believe anyone offered an .iso download (could be mistaken) so that pretty much elminates that. Just mention the original .iso image though for reference.

b) Is 8MB really worth the savings when the .exe restricts linux and mac people from downloading it and burning. Just seems not worth the trouble.

c) Early versions 7zip did offer much bigger compression advantages but now 8MB IMHO is a moot point.

Personally I've offered .iso for awhile but thought the zip was worth the compression and it's probably less confusing for newbies who don't know how to verify md5 sums. So now I just offer zip.

So far this month from May 1st to May 13th here's download stats.
24434 downloads 741796724 KBs or 707GB

700GB is nothing to sneeze at.

I am opening this issue for debate.

From my BitTorrent stats, there seems to be an equal number of people
downloading the EXE vs. ZIP version. So clearly some people prefer one
over the other, but there is no overwhelming preference for either.

It mainly depends on what the news sites report and link to. Clearly on filemirrors .exe was the only one shown for ubcd.
