Secure Harddisk Eraser

I've encountered a prog that erases your hard drives a little bit better than the other hard drive erase progs on the UBCD and I wouldn't complain about seing this prog on the next version of UBCD.
It's called Secure Harddisk Eraser and can be found here.
It comes in two versions. A 3 stage version and a 35 stage version. For more info, visit the website.

It's pretty trivial to add this tool yourself if you want to use it, read the customization docs for the ubcd for more details.

IMHO, I doubt that it would be added to the "official" release as it doesn't really bring anything new and compelling as far as I can see. It just is a different way to do the same thing that Darik's Boot N Nuke or the other three disk wiping utilities already on there do.

What is better about this Linux-based version?

I may add it to the next release, lemme check it out first. It is sometimes good to have different apps for doing the same thing (eg. disk wiping). Due to the different hardware out there, something that works on one machine may not work on another. But I have had good experience with DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke) so far.

I have also had very good luck with DBAN. The only times I've had problems were when the hard disk had some physical problems, or the machine wouldn't boot off a CD.

I have decided not to include "Secure Harddisk Eraser" with UBCD.

It does not allow you to select which HDD to erase, and the auto-erase after 60s countdown is a rather dangerous feature to have!
