Dell Latitude CPi ISOLINUX 3.07 problems

UBCD vers. 3.3 and 3.4 do not work on Dell Latitude CPi laptops. Dell Latitude CP laptops may have the same problem.

Anything that launches in UBCD with ISOLINUX 3.07 freezes with garbage on the screen, a hard crash lockup requiring power-down. So no programs are available, except for CD Shell itself.

Other people have reported similar problems with ISOLINUX 3.07. The current version is 3.11 03-Sep-2005. Maybe a future version of UBCD will use this and things will work better? But the discussion here is not encouraging about problems with old BIOSes:

Some people with 3.07 problems say they can get around the problems by using older isolinux.bin versions, 2.13 or 2.11. Is there a way to provide such older versions on the standard UBCD as alternate choices, for people who are having this problem?

Or maybe MEMDISK could be offered as an alternative way to launch some apps?

test setup:
works: K7S5A 1000MHz AMD Duron
problems: Dell Latitude CPi D266XT BIOS A11 2001 Phoenix
(test on two separate Dell D266XT)
crashes with message:
ISOLINUX 3.07 03/01/2005

(Is there any connection between this problem and the fact that these Dell laptop computers seem to need "framebuffer" video support for NeoMagic Graph 128XD to boot Linux?)

* Next message: [syslinux] [ISOLINUX] No boot: prompt with ISOLINUX 3.07

I found that the version of isolinux.bin (and the debug version too)
doesn't work on my Via C3 system. I get the SAY text, but never the boot:
prompt. C-A-Del doesn't reboot either.

When I replaced the copy of isolinux.bin with the copy that's on the
Knoppix 3.7 CD, then I get the boot: prompt.

Sounds like a nice feature to have.

But as far as I know, it is not possible to run two versions of isolinux from the same CD.

If anyone knows how this can be done, please let me know.
