I just tried to use the OnTrack data advisor included in UBCD v3.2, and was informed that my license had expired, and the program quit :-(

Just thought I should let you know, as you may want to remove it from future versions.

Thanks for the tip! I will be removing it from the next release of UBCD.

No problem. I couldn't see any utilities to recover deleted files, did I miss something, or is it because there isn't any on the CD?

The only free undelete utility I've been able to find is Active@ Undelete, which has a free demo download (64KB file size limit), but it appears to run under Windows, so it's no use for UBCD.

If I remember correctly, all of them are for undeleting partitions, not
files.

If you can find any free ones (non-demo), please share it with us!

I don't actually need an undelete tool at the moment (although I always expect to need one soon :-) ), and I haven't had time to try any of these, but I did find the following:

CDFix was originally developed to recover scratched cdroms but can be used for any mountable filesystem. It runs under Linux.

FATfix also runs under Linux

The Coroner's Toolkit is intended to analyse a *nix system after a break-in. It includes Lazarus, which can recover deleted files on pretty much any file system. There is an article about using Lazarus to rescue files at
http://www.cert.org/security-improvemen ... 46.03.html

Hope that helps,

Russ

Forgot to mention The Sleuth Kit. There's an article on using it to recover files from FAT partitions at
http://www.sleuthkit.org/informer/sleut ... ml#recover
