How to update a Ext2 boot file?

Post by Calvin » Wed Dec 17, 2008 6:24 pm

Hi,

I successfully managed to add the Panda Antivirus to my boot CD.

Now, I just don't know how to update the virus definitions inside the boot file. So far, I managed to extract the "initrd_img" file from it's gzip container.
Now I just need to replace the "pav.sig" file inside that Ext2 image.

I already found instructions on how to do this in Linux but, I would rather use Windows or MacOS.

I found some file viewers like "Explore2fs" that open and show the contents of the file. Only they're all "read only".

Also tried a file-system driver (Ext2 IFS for Windows, and a similar Mac software) but that kind of software was meant to access partitions not image files.

Can please someone help me? Thanks in advance.

Use linux (Parted Magic is already included in UBCD). It is the easiest way.
It is very difficult, maybe even impossible, to do it in windows.
