Memtest86 3.5 has a bug with systems that have 4GB of RAM or higher, it will crash within a couple seconds. I believe Memtest86 3.4 should be included as well for this reason.

Okidoki.
This bug is unacceptable IMHO :)
Everybody is going to have more than 4 Go...
( Albeit I bought a "recent" game which has this kind of bug and will never be patched...let's put the shame on the programmers of Söldner-X ! )

I've downloaded ubcd50RC1.iso from http://www.myubcd.com, burned the image file to a cd and tried to boot it but it doesn't work?

Single Click to open files

I just wanted to chime in and say that the file manager setting where you single click to open files vs. double-click is really annoying. I think most people are used to the opposite behavior. It's a simple setting and one I feel is currently set incorrectly for most people.

Hi Kof94,

Frankly, I don't know what you're talking about. There's an ugly simplistic interface loaded with tools when you first boot off the CD. If you require a GUI and the utilities contained therein then you just select Parted Magic from the menu. If you don't want to use parted magic, there are plenty of utilities and menu options that can be accessed without loading parted magic. Are you complaining about the file size of bundling parted magic? It's tiny either way, so who cares? So long as it'll fit on a CD, I'm happy. Sure, it's too big for a business card CD, but I don't think that's a requirement for most people. It can however fit on old school 650MB CD's and the newer 700MB variety.

Cheers,
Christian

Memtest86+ on i7 and large memory

Memtest 86+ 4.0 only will test 529K of memory on an i7 system. We tried a couple. We also tried v2.11 with the same results. We found that if the .img file from the iso image is used to boot with then all memory is seen and tested. The .bin files don't seem to see the memory. Have not tested this on less than 4GB. It will work on 73GB though :D

If you just delete the /pmagic dir, a lot (the real ones) of Parted Magic files are already gone.

Some scripts that update definition files for antivirus programs. Those antivirus programs can be run in Parted Magic. Those files are very small and you won't see them in the boot menu. If you don't need them even if you have Parted Magic. It is an optional script that you can use, but don't necessary need, just like the other tools in the /ubcd/toools folder.

Code: Select all

./ubcd/tools/linux/antivirus/clamav.sh
./ubcd/tools/linux/antivirus/fprot.sh
The ./ubcd/tools/linux/syslinux2grub4dos/syslinux2grub4dos.sed file can convert the syslinux menu to an uptodate grub4dos menu. If you remove all Parted Magic related stuff in the syslinux menus, the script still works.

You only have to remove the Parted Magic entries from the following files to get rid of all Parted Magic stuff:

Code: Select all

./ubcd/menus/syslinux/main.cfg
./ubcd/menus/syslinux/hdd/recovery.cfg
./ubcd/menus/syslinux/hdd/partmgmt.cfg
./ubcd/menus/syslinux/hdd/cloning.cfg
./ubcd/menus/isolinux/main.cfg
If you want the grub4dos menu cleared too, run ./ubcd/tools/linux/syslinux2grub4dos/syslinux2grub4dos.sh after you have corrected the previous files to your liking (will update the grub4dos config files).

Removing utilities of Parted Magic from the HDD ==> Recovery, Partition Management and Cloning submenu is possible for the next release, but I am not sure if it is an advantage to have them removed.
Example: If you don't know Parted Magic and you are looking for a cloning tool (in the menus), you may miss a great program included in Parted Magic.

@dlevasheff
Very strange.
From which bootmanager did you try to boot Memtest 86+?

Hi Kof94,

I think you're alone on that one. Personally, I wouldn't know how to start Parted Magic if it weren't on the menu. Having all the options visible on the menu is the only way that makes sense. Like it or not most people wouldn't know how to access the majority of features on the CD if they didn't either appear in the old school menu that appears when you first boot the CD or in the "Start" menu, taskbar, and desktop inside of Parted Magic.

Cheers,
Christian

i think downgrade is bad. use memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/).
its newer and support more motherboards and its in development.
