Development of UBCD lite version

#1 Post by clifbone » Sun Mar 07, 2010 1:03 am

Could a version of UBCD be created that is 50MB or smaller
(will fit on mini cd) this would do a few things:
1.)The menu system would be simpler
2.)You could release newer versions of UBCD sooner
3.)When you know that a certain menu item and it's software are working it could be transferred to the heavy version (for lack of better term)

You would have to pick and choose the software carefully, I would like to recommend:
memtest 86+ as the first menu item followed by drive fitness test, is it possible to make memtest boot by default after a set time.

That is definately an Icecube or Victor question. I dont think there is enought man power to actually get something like this going, tho it seems simple enough.

Tho I would like to add...that if this: viewtopic.php?t=1429
gets off its feet, will make customizations much much easier, allow people to remove unnecesary programs to their liking with ease.

I build and maintain a custom version of UBCD for my team.

I have ripped a lot of the extra tools and put in what I need. I customized the menus to be more suited to what I use it for.. Currently my list of applications looks something like this:

Memory test (memtest+ and memtest+86)
CPU stress tests.
3 HDD diagnostic tools
Lenovo PC Doctor

Dell Full Diagnostic suites
Set of images for after motherboard repair

FreeDos 1.35
Parted Magic 4.6

Ubuntu 9.xx
Windows Recovery Environments (Vista/Win7,X86/X64, installs etc.)
Entries to boot to partition 2,3,4, next device

Testing section for some unstable/grey area tools.

Its really what you make of it...
