Ubuntu 9.10, Syslinux, UBCD 5 : 3 Step How-To Guide

#1 Post by delicatepc » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:33 pm

Hi,

I have been able to add and run Ubuntu 9.10 off of my UBCD build. I am running syslinux 3.84.

1) I have downloaded the Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop ISO, extracted it, and deleted everything BUT these folders (please let me know if I can delete more!):

Code: Select all

.disk
casper
dists
pool
preseed
2) I then transferred those folders to my UBCD usbstick.
3) Added the following entries in the syslinux menu (work good for me):

Code: Select all

LABEL -
MENU LABEL Ubuntu 9.10 LiveOS (Live - No Changes Saved)
	LINUX /casper/vmlinuz
	INITRD /casper/initrd.lz
	APPEND preseed/file=preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper ramdisk_size=1048576 root=/dev/ram rw splash --

LABEL -
MENU LABEL Ubuntu 9.10 LiveOS (Persistent)
	LINUX /casper/vmlinuz
	INITRD /casper/initrd.lz
	APPEND preseed/file=preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper persistent ramdisk_size=1048576 root=/dev/ram rw splash --
Thats it! Boot and try it out!

I just tried the above method on "Ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition" and it worked like a charm :) the only thing I encountered were two broken links in the /dists-folder, but they did not seem to matter much, apart from that everything worked as expected. Thanks delicatepc for a simple howto :)

Glad it worked for you. Its good to hear that is working well with Ubuntu 10.4 - I was looking to try it out with it just to see how 10.4 looks and feels.
