HP utilities

#1 Post by customizer » Thu Jan 21, 2010 12:33 pm

Has anyone been able to get the HP utilities smart start or firmware upgrade disks to work with ver 50rc1? I got the firmware disk to load / boot in grub for dos menu, but it locks up before it completely loads the program.

title HP Firmware 8.60
map /FW860.ISO (hd32)
map --hook
root (hd32)
chainloader (hd32)
boot

this gets it to load, but it hangs.

anybody any ideas? or how to get it to load in syslinux menu? there it never loads just fills the screen with dots, like it cant allocate memory to it.

Hi Customizer,

What is the ISO? BIOS update? Do you have a link to ISO? I am curious to see if I can get it working give it a shot.

Let me know.

The HP SmartStart is a deployment and maintenance tool for HP servers.
There are 2 version available for download:

V8.30 32bit
V8.30 64bit

Latest Firmware Maintenance CD is V8.70 and can be found here:
Link

All 3 cds can be put on the same USB key using the HP USB Key Utility.
The HP USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the HP SmartStart CD and/or HP Firmware Maintenance CD to a USB memory key. Users may then run the CD applications from a USB key instead of from the CD.

I am using this method to deploy and maintain servers at work without having to change the cd or usb key everytime but I'm still looking for an easy way to include the UBCD too.
Any help is appreciated.

Can you list all files (and files in subdirectories) of the different iso's?
The files are rather big to download just for testing.
Download Ultimate Boot CD v5.0: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
Use Parted Magic for handling all partitioning task: http://partedmagic.com/

I did get this to work, but had to copy all the files from the iso to a folder on usb stick, much like the HP usb key util does.

THIS is the USBmenu.cfg theat the boot key util creates

So you created a UBCD USB-KEY and added the Smartstart and Firmware CD manually?

I'll give it a try and see if that works for me...still very new to all this ;)
