Hello,

My old presario does not want to boot any more from the HM160HC HDD, I ran Samsung diag which says "Service error AJ39" for the first diag "DMA test". and recommending to erase the HDD and re-run the test. So I prepared a UBCD and ran [Salvation Default scan] who found no problems. Now I try to clone to my USB attached 1TB Verbatim with [HDClone Free] but it wont clone to a usb (inviting me to buy the "basic" despite their version overview states a support for USB 1.1 & 2.0 in the "free" version...(!).

I once used the clonezilla but it is a bit frightening :( My question is somebody would have a recommendation for a sure way to clone or selectively copy files or allowing to boot otherwise to my HDD and doing thing directly with XP i.e copying stuff the Verbatim.

Many thank in advance for your help

Guy

Boot with a Ubuntu live CD, drag and drops your files from the HDD to a USB attached disk or upload them to the Internet

You could have burned a UBCD5.0 RC1 and booted into parted magic, and mounted the drives you need and have done the same thing...with out having to load a ubuntu live cd which probably would have taken alittle longer...but in the end, both ways work.
