At boot-land, Wonko gave me a tip to resolved the Winimage Self-Extractor 8.00 problem in Vista.

When the floppy extractor program (memscope110.exe in this case) requests to insert a formatted floppy, don't do it. Click "ok" anyway. When it fails to read the floppy, the program gives the chance to retry. Just then, insert the floppy and click retry.

It worked! As I posted at boot-land, I guess Winimage 8.1 might solve the problem in Vista. I didn't test it, though.

I will try your "dynamite" suggestion and I'll report back.

It was a copy/paste problem (link on first page of this topic worked).
Fixed the one on this page.

is "not working" in Vista.

I managed to download the zip file, and windows states it is invalid. I tried 7-zip, and it extracts a file named "bitmap_bros_pc_unpack" but it has no extension AND 7-zip has no "Type" column. Additionaly, 7-zip states the Host OS is Unix, and the zip file is actually a gzip type.

What should I do? How to get to extract the files you pointed me to (dynamite...) ?

I can extract the zip file just fine, with 7-zip. It isn't a gzip file.
"bitmap_bros_pc_unpack" is a directory, not a file.

Download the file again and eventually use another browser. Webservers can gzip files on the fly and send that output to a browser.

Link works fine on windows 7 (chrome browser, firefox, IE 64bit). As Icecube stated, may want to try another browser if you can.

StopSpazzing, the problem extracting the archive was already resolved. Since I posted also in the ImDisk boot-land forum, as Icecube suggested, I didn't come back here to report. I should have. I apologize for that.

Under Windows Vista, 7-zip opened the first zip archive, and ID the archive (probably not accurately) as a gzip, as I described before.

Since (under Vista), 7-zip ID the content of that zip archive as a file, with no extension, and as a Unix Hosted file, then the extracted file was not usable under Windows.

But then I tried opening again the zip, and instead of extracting, I used the "File" -> "Open Inside" function on the content of the zip (the "file" / folder inside the downloaded zip).

This time 7-zip opened the "file", as if it were a folder inside the zip (as Icecube said it was, but under Vista it wasn't being displayed as a such).

So I managed to extract the content of this "folder".

So you see it was not a problem of browsers or wrong links.

I wrote all this, in hope that maybe this description can help somebody else that finds himself in this situation.
