Failed Downloads

#1 Post by Bodang » Sat Aug 20, 2011 12:54 pm

Just FYI Today (20AUG11) I downloaded UBCD v 5.1.1 twice from oldergeeks.com and although, the download speed was quite good, both files had different and incorrect MD5 sums. I then tried the Michigan Tech mirror and although it was a bit slow, it gave me a good file with the correct MD5 sum. Since I got two different MD5 sums from oldergeeks.com that leads me to believe it was a transmission problem rather than a bad file at the source. I'm surprised that a higher speed connection gave me two bad files.
Just wanted to let you know of this experience in case you receive ISO failed type comments. Not everyone verifies the MD5 sum, but as many know it is the first line of defense in preventing installation problems as well as nefarious activity.

Besides the problem that you described, there is a wiki tutorial about checksums and torrent methods to re-download only part of the file in case it is necessary:
