Preferred tool for copying files on NTFS drive

#1 Post by aro » Thu Dec 22, 2005 1:55 am

Hi,

Excellent tool - thx for the UBCD!

I need to make a copy of a folder on a damaged Win2K installation. The copy should be placed on the same drive as the original folder. The drive is NTFS.

What tool on the UBCD should i preferably use to make the copy?

Note that I am not trying make a copy of the entire drive or making an image, just a copy of selected files/folders on an NTFS drive. Till now I have not had success using 'Necromancer': I get access to the NTFS drive but writing the copy always fails.

Thx for any hints,
aro

If possible boot the system using a Windows 2000 or XP CD and go to "Recovery Console" and run chkdsk or chkdsk /r (bad sector scan), then you should be able to boot the system normally.

Otherwise, try NTFS4DOS, which should allow to copy the folder via DOS commands.
