New user: every tool hangs at Loading /images/xxxxxx.igz...

#1 Post by hsflanders » Sun Feb 05, 2006 12:24 am

I downloaded the self-extracting .exe and created a bootable CD from the .iso.
I can boot from the CD, I get the menu of tools.

Every tool I select, I get the same hang.
For example, I'm trying to use the Maxtor maxblast diagnostic utility. After selecting it with the appropriate function key, I get a new screen with:

ISOLINUX 3.07 03/01/2005
Copyright ...
Loading /isolinux/memdisk...
Loading /images/maxblast.igz...

This is all I get. Everything hangs and I have to power down or ctrl-alt-del to get out.

Please help.
I am running on a Dell Dimension 4700 P4 520.

Thanks,

I still have the problem, but just want to add the following info:

- I burned two CDs from the .iso and neither work in this computer;
- I tried the CDs using two different CD readers on this computer, with the same results;
- I booted one of the CDs in a different computer, and it works perfectly.

So I'm confident the CDs are good, and don't think that it is the CD drives that are causing problems. I think it is something about this computer and/or its BIOS?

I have tried enabling and disabling the floppy (which doesn't exist in this computer) in the bios boot sequence, but this didn't seem to matter.
Something to do with memdisk or isolinux?
Does it matter that the Maxtor hard drive that I'm trying to diagnose might have totally crapped on itself (of course this happened 3 days after the 1 yr Dell warranty expired, on a crummy hard disk with only a 1 yr manufacturer warranty)?

Any suggestions? My next step is to take the drive out and try diagnosing it in the computer where UBCD works. This should get me by for now, but I'd really like to be able to boot from and use this CD long term.

Thanks for any suggestions.
