Booting Error

#1 Post by apay » Mon Sep 12, 2011 1:26 am

I just downloaded and burned the standard .iso for UBCD v.5.1.1, which I had no problems with, but then when I went to boot up the CD, I get "Error 0100 reading sector 180122" and the line below that says "Initial menu has no LABEL entries!" I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with my CD drive because it's worked just fine reading a bunch of other CDs. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Thanks! That turned out to the be the issue, the .iso I had downloaded did not have the correct checksum, so I downloaded from a different mirror site and got the correct one. Odd that one of those trusted mirror sites would have changed the original .iso file.

Could you let me know which mirror it is so that I can confirm if the checksum is wrong?

Hi. I have downloaded (all of the steps appeared to be OK) and burned the iso image to a CD-RW. However, not having access to a User Guide, I cannot cause the successfully booted CD to do anything but hang on the boot prompt (probably because I am ignorant of how to use the UBCD 5.1.1 features!). I need to verify a bad sector problem on my internal WD drive and, hopefully, correct the problem. Where can I access instructions on use of this powerful set of tools on my HP dv9820us laptop under Vista x64? Appreciatively, Arbyem

@Arbyem,

Have you followed the instructions on those wiki tutorials that Icecube linked to?

I was overly anxious in posting a separate question on a different stream "UBCD 5.1 is now available for download":
"Hi: I am new to the UBCD, having just downloaded V5.1.1 and created the bootable DVD-CD from the ISO image file. Although I do have a previous version of the UBCD from PC Tools, circa Oct 2007, I was never comfortable using it without a user guide. I used it only for memory tests on my old Win XP SP3 desktop. Now I need to be able to check my WD internal HD (HP dv9820us laptop, Vista x64) for bad sectors, hopefully with the capability to repair them, since my WD diagnostic program and my SeaTools for Windows programs have each detected a bad sector in this internal drive. I was unable to use, successfully, a bootable CD for the SeaTools for DOS which I had downloaded (but I understand from another source that this tool might not handle my SATA-connected internal WD HD). However, I would be grateful for access to a User Guide for the hard disk tools on the UBCD 5.1.1 DVD-CD. Thanks, in advance, for any assistance in this matter. Appreciatively, Arbyem"
I also used chkdsk/f on each of the two partitioned drives of my internal WD HD, with no anomalies being reported.
I did not check the wiki hot-links because my problem is different from the original one in this stream.
I would be most grateful for access to a User Guide, or similar source of instructions for use of the UBCD 5.1.1 bootable CD. I also downloaded UBCD4win.iso, but my Zone Alarm Extreme Security reported an alleged set of three viruses, so I uninstalled it. Can the UBCVD 5.1.1 be booted up and used with Vista x64? Thanks again, with apologies for the second related post in the "UBCD 5.1 is now available for download" steam - which I will terminate.

I can confirm a bad CRC when downloading UBCD from Fusa.

BTW, I have resolved my problem with not being able to use the program. I have used it, and discovered that I do not have a disk error problem! Thnaks for the assistance. Arbyem

I just download the ISO image from the fusa mirror, and the checksums are alright, so I think it is something else. The mirror is still good.
