Question about Customizing UBCD!

#1 Post by KingD » Mon May 02, 2005 3:30 pm

Hello all! I have a question concerning, customizing the UBCD. I am following the directions provided on this site. I am currently making .img (Image Files) of all my boot disks, in order to add them to the UBCD, I downloaded files for a Win2K boot disk, in 4 files, each zip file has an .img file in it that is required to make the 4 Boot Disketts for Win2k. Question, will UBCD know that these 4 files are for Win2K if I just put them in the images folder, then recompile the ISO file for the UBCD, or do I need to make the 4 diskettes and then recreate the image files with (Floppy Image)? The files in question were downloaded from: www.bootdisk.com\bootdisk.htm

Please help if you can, and thank you!

Although technically it may be possible to get your
boot disks to work, I don't think anyone will be able
to help. The issue is that the image booting code
creates a virtual disk for the image, but your images
expect to be swapped out on the same drive letter.

The only solution is to merge these into one image, but
since together they are larger than a floppy, you'd
have to create a hard disk image. Various issues and
problem can arise from this. You can check out
http://www.wolfgang-brinkmann.de/bcdw/index_e.htm for
possible solutions. (Check the FAQ)

Perhaps you could tell us what you want to accomplish
so that we can offer alternative solutions. (Booting
to W2K just for the sake of booting doesn't do you
much, what is it that you want to do once booted?)

If you are interested in putting the Win2K/XP setup disks into CD form, you should look up this site for more information: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ (How to put all versions of Windows into a single bootable CD).

I am not sure whether it can be integrated with UBCD though.

Thanks for your response! I will check out the link.

I have run into instances when doing repair work, when the hard drive won't boot and I need to manually reformat. Also it seems that whenever I work on someones personal computer, and it is an HP Computer (hp partitions the drive with the OS restoration files) Sometimes in this instance I also need to manually reformat, at times I have been forced to reformat, load dos, and a dos cd drivers(although most of the time I am able to boot from cd on these computers) in order to reinstall Windows. This is the only reason that I wanted to load these boot disks to cd.

Thanks for all your help!

Two alternative options I can think of regarding formatting
a hard drive from UBCD (in addition to Victor's sugggestion
about this link: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

- Use UBCD Full with Insert and use QTparted
- Add or use UBCDWin http://www.ubcd4win.com/ *
