Can't access to my hard drive with Windows

#1 Post by pihug12 » Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:52 am

Hello !

Since one week, I can hardly access to one of my hard drive on Windows (Vista). It takes a very long time to open a folder or Windows crashs.
But TestDisk can open the folders on this hard drive instantly !

How can I solve this problem ?

[PS : I can't use NTFS4DOS on Ultimate Boot CD :?]

Sounds like a bad HDD to me.

Open up Event Viewer and check the system events. If you see a lot of errors about bad blocks, you probably have a bad HDD.

First, try to backup everything you can salvage to DVD or an external USB HDD. Then run the HDD manufacturer's diag util and do a scan to see if the HDD is bad.

I use Seagate bootable floppy diagnostic program (boots to dos)
and it can check any HDD. Saved me a lot of time fighting a HDD that wouldn't show up on Bios or anywhere else.
Solution: dropped the HDD into my trash bin.
