I just ran through UBCD5.0b4 on a test machine and noticed some errors, noticed a few out of date apps, know of a few programs not listed (Don't know if they were tested, dropped out, etc), and some general suggestions.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
256 PC2700 RAM
1 Maxtor 60 GB HDD (Prim Master)
1 Maxtor 20 GB HDD (Prim Slave)
1 CDRW (2nd Master)
1 DVD (2nd Slave)
Bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combo

NSSI - Menu displays V0.60.26 but it is actually V0.60.26
There is a program called DiskInfo which can be found at

There is a program that resets Toshiba BIOS passwords called KeyDisk, which can be used alot of times instead of a parallel loopback parallel and you can read about it here

HDD Install
Data Lifeguard - You may want to rename this to Data Lifeguard Tools so it does not get confused with Data Lifeguard Diagnostics

Discwizard v10 - My mouse only moved up and down, not right and left (havn't tested any other systems or mice yet)

HDD Wiping
pcinspector e-maxx - Needs upgraded from V0.95 to V1.0 and can be downloaded from

HDD Low Level
There is a program called DiskSpy which can be downloaded here

HDD Diagnostic
SeaTools - You have the v1.09 text version and there is a v1.10 text version as well as a v2.07 GUI version here

Diagnostic Tool (Fujitsu) - You have v6.9 and v7.0 is available at

Drive Fitness Test (Hitachi) - Your menu lists v4.11, it is actually v4.12, and v4.14 is available now

Data Lifeguard 5.04F - There is an error in the startup.bat file that needs changed to set APPEXE=dlgdiag5.exe

GWScan5 - Gets a "COMMAND ERROR" when the application first comes up then it dies (Might be my HDD's causing it? GWScan3 works though)

HDat2 - The image that the menu points to is missing /ubcd/images/hdat2.igz

SMARTUDM - This program should be listed under HDD Diagnostics because it tests to see if a HDD is failing, then it should be removed from HDD management. (Just checking if this was a mistake or not?)

SDiag (Fujitsu) - Should probably be added to test Fujitsu SCSCI Drives and can be downloaded at

HDD Management
Feature Tool (Hitachi) - There is an upgrade fro v2.09 to v2.10 available here Hitachi,

SMARTUDM - This should probably be removed from HDD Management and moved to HDD Diagnostics since it detects if a HDD is failing?

ATAINF - After running it and reading the documentation, it seems this will only display stats and capabilities of drives not configure them. This should probably be moved to HDD Diagnostics.

UDMAUtil 2.4 and 2.4.5 (Fujitsu) You may want to add these which are used to change the transfer mode on Fujitsu Drives, which you may want to add these and can get them at

Change Definition Utility 2.0 (Fujitsu) you may want to add these which are used to change some bus/scsci parameters on HDD's and you can get them here

Fujitsu Erase Utility - You may want to add this which 0 fills HDD's (plus you already list SUTIL which is similar but from Samsung)

HDD Cloning
Clone-Maxx - Menu lists it as v1.0 and the program is v0.95 and you can get v1.0 here

HDClone - My mouse did not function in it, and there is an upgrade from v3.5 to v3.6.2 available at

HDD Partitioning
I know some additional programs not listed you may want to consider, and I'll just list them below:

Parition Logic

Part Info

HDD Boot Managers
Gujin - It ran some discoveries then went to a black screen on my machine. Also there is an update available from v2.2 to v2.4 available at

Boot Partition - You should modify the Bat file to run bootapp.exe /? so it shows the options

Some Other Thoughts I had...
1) Remove Others from the main.cfg and add Malware and OS Distros. You can then place Parted Magic, any Linux Distros, Recovery Console for Windows, BartPE, etc in the OS Distros.
2) Create a new Menu in main.cfg called Password. You can then move the NT Offline & Registry editor there instead of data recovery. Also, you could add a readme on resetting PW's in LILO, GRUB, OS X, Windows, BIOS, parallel Loopback instructions (Toshiba) which I can provide all of that info.

I pretty much got nothing to do this week, so I will gladly make any changes, updates, etc and recreate a new ISO.

This reminds me, I have also prepared a host of network diagnostic tools I need to submit to Victor to look at.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have implemented all of them, except for the following:

pcinspector e-maxx - Needs upgraded from V0.95 to V1.0

You can download V1.0 from the website, but the version info displayed when you run it is V0.95. Ditto with Clone-Maxx.

SMARTUDM - This program should be listed under HDD Diagnostics

I have renamed then category to "Device Info/Management". SMARTUDM is actually for viewing SMART parameter values, so I think it fits under this category better.

Part Info, MBRUtility

Won't be adding these two apps because they don't seem to offer any additional value over the existing partition managers with textual UI.

I also prefer to keep the existing menu structure at this stage.
